Frequently Asked Questions

  • Forest Bathing & Nature Connection comes from the Japanese practice of Shinrin Yoku, ‘to absorb the atmosphere of the forest through your sense.’

It’s a gentle, mindful way of connecting with nature using all your senses. It’s not a hike or workout, but a slow, calming wander that helps you relax, reset, and feel more present.

During a session with Wild Wonder you will be guided through a series of mindful practices partnering with the natural world exploring themes such as creativity, reflection and gratitude. You will also be offered the opportunity to share you experience with the group if you wish, through a supported sharing circle, no pressure though!

Although this wellbeing practice is called Forest Bathing it can be done anywhere where you can connect with nature, not just in the forest, although Wild Wonder sessions primarily take place in a private, secluded woodland in Essendon, Hertfordshire.

Forest bathing promotes deep relaxation, calm, clarity and grounding. It’s inquisitive, freeing and a non judgemental space. There are also many physiological benefits such as lowering stress, reducing blood pressure and it gives you a lovely dose of serotonin- happy hormones!

  • Yes. The scientifically proven benefits are based on 2 hours spent mindfully immersed in nature. The NHS is now prescribing Forest Bathing in Surrey & Scotland as part of it’s green social prescribing with more plans to roll this out further across the UK.

Although Forest Bathing is relatively new to the UK, research has been conducted by the University of Derby and the Forest Bathing Institute.

Immediate benefits after a Forest Bathing session include:

    Reduced stress

    Lower heart rate

    Reduced anxiety

Boosted white blood cell count (phytoncides produced by trees and plants to help protect them are absorbed by us too when spending time around them, boosting our immune system)
